ways to affect lighting in (digital) photography

my camera is a nikon d80. i've been messing around with a lot of different functions and i've compiled a list of things i have found that affect the lighting and look of a photograph:
1. iso value
2. flash, flash strength, type of flash (normal, slow, rear)
3. white balance
4. aperture
5. shutter speed
6. exposure compensation
7. distance between the camera and the subject
8. available light outside of the camera
9. subject motion speed

how can a circumference be pi?

on the wikipedia page for pi it says "When a circle's diameter is 1, its circumference is π"
but if pi's decimal form "never ends or repeats", how can it be a circumference of a circle? a circle has a definite circumference length.

furl for bb forum

what i would like is a bulletin board forum software that, when you link to an external webpage in a thread/post, it saves the page as an attachment to the post. it sucks when you think you've found an answer to a problem you're having only to get a 404 when you click on a link linking to the supposed answer.

does this exist anyone?

crash n slide

today was the first day of ice on the road although i didn't see it until i was laying on my side and trying to hold on to my scooter =) i was turning the corner into the hydro texaco gas station and wham! suddenly i was slidding on my left side and barely holding to my bike with my right hand. luckily the bike (and myself) had no scratches, no damage whatsoever that i could see =) luckily i was only going about 5-10 km/t so it wasn't a big deal. it was just a little scary, but i think it's time to put the bike away and start riding the train... piss...

were my children abducted by aliens last night?

ok, this is kind of spooky. yesterday i saw some interesting UFO videos and read this article about EBE's:
Our Government Sold Us to the Greys
last night at about 01:23 i woke up and my youngest son was crying
i got up and went to the boys' room.
when i walked in i saw something pretty weird/scary. i have 3 sons. the youngest was in his baby bed crying. he was laying on his stomach. his blanket was not covering him
the two older sons lay in beds parallel to each other. both were laying on their stomachs in the opposite of normal direction (their feet were on their pillow, both were laying with their heads towards the window). both of them had their arms at their side, their blankets were off them too and both their heads were turned to the left, and they were pretty much laying exactly in the middle of their beds, widthwise. it was creepy. i should have taken a picture, but i was just focused on taking up my one child who was crying. i put him in our bed and went back to the boys' room and got them up to take them to the bathroom so they could go pee and so i could have a look at them. they both seemed fine, but it was sure a weird scene. i have never seen anything like that in the 6 years they've been alive. i hope the thought of an alien abduction is just a thought and not a reality... nonetheless i think we'll buy a baby call to put in their room.

scooter kostnader priser i norge

helt ny scooter (honda monkey [skyteam ST50-8], 2008 modell, 4hk (?), (49cc) 50 cc motor): 5900 NOK

årsavgift (mopeder) 380 NOK

omregistreringsavgift (mopeder): 597 NOK
hvis den allerede har blitt registrert. ifølge finn.no annonsen er registreringsavgift inkludert.
linket fra denne nettsiden på tollvesenet

"Kjennemerker til personbil koster fra 300 til 500 kroner pr. sett. For andre typer kjennemerker, ring din region for pris."

***********************
engangskostnader: 5900+129 == 6029 NOK
årlige kostnader: 380+720 == 1100 NOK
drivstoff kommer i tillegg og er vanskelig å beregne her i norge fordi jeg synes prisen varierer så kraftig fra dag til dag og fra by til by

***********************

her er noen videoer jeg fant på youtube:

Skyteam Monkey 49cc v8 speedsource
dubbele ixil - skyteam monkey 50cc
monkey skyteam
Skyteam-Monkey ajo
Monkey skyteam rétro smart bike
monkey

i will hopefully be posting my own (way better quality) video soon! =)

andre relevante ord er kr, kroner, pris, kostnader, kostnad, hva, hvor mye koster det å kjøpe moped, motorsykkel, mc, scooter, i året, norway, toll, avgift

how did ubuntu linux get so popular so quickly?

What was the reason for Ubuntu's stunning success? Firstly, the project was created by Mark Shuttleworth, a charismatic South African multimillionaire, a former Debian developer and the world's second space tourist, whose company, the Isle of Man-based Canonical Ltd, is currently financing the project. Secondly, Ubuntu had learnt from the mistakes of other similar projects and avoided them from the start - it created an excellent web-based infrastructure with a Wiki-style documentation, creative bug-reporting facility, and professional approach to the end users. And thirdly, thanks to its wealthy founder, Ubuntu has been able to ship free CDs to all interested users, thus contributing to the rapid spread of the distribution.

the c major scale on guitar

on my Eagle SI-30 BK electric guitar there are 22 frets.
the c major scale consists of the following barre chords:
0 5 10 12 17 22
0 5 10 12 17 22
0 5 10 12 17 22
0 5 10 12 17 22
0 5 10 12 17 22
0 5 10 12 17 22

so to me it looks like the pattern is this:
if the starting point is fret 0 (zero, open, no fingers at all on the frets)
it increases with 5 to get the next barre
it increases again with 5 to get the next one after that
it increases with 2 after that to get the next one
then starts again with increasing with 5
increasing with 5
then increasing with 2 (if there were more frets after the 22ndth fret)
so the pattern is:
5, 5, 2 (repeat)

linux strings command

from the man pages:
For each file given, GNU strings prints the printable character
sequences that are at least 4 characters long (or the number given with
the options below) and are followed by an unprintable character. By
default, it only prints the strings from the initialized and loaded
sections of object files; for other types of files, it prints the
strings from the whole file.

strings is mainly useful for determining the contents of non-text
files.

it prints the printable characters of non-text files....pretty cool

watch ALL youtube videos on your mobile

on youtube's homepage today is says:
"New! Watch ALL YouTube videos on your mobile device"

i think that would be expensive to watch ALL YouTube videos, don't you? and who has the time to do that anyways?

fyi, i was shocked when i looked at my stats the other day and it said that i have watched a total of over 5,000 videos on youtube. crikey!

youtube quick capture is cool, but it sucks

cool because you can just upload right into youtube and even edit it there
sucks because you don't have a backup copy of your video...

alaska: the last frontier

wow, alaska seems really interesting:
1. Alaska is also the only state to allow legal possession of marijuana: an adult may possess four ounces for personal use.

2. it is twice as big as texas

3. it has 3,5 million lakes over the size of 20 acres!

4. 82% of Alaskans are Christians. 5% of christians are mormon

5. If the state's westernmost point were superimposed on San Francisco, California, its easternmost point would be in Jacksonville, Florida.

6. Alaska was not granted statehood until January 3, 1959.

7. 75% of Alaska residents are white. 19% are American Indian or Alaska Native, the largest proportion of any state.

8. Its per-capita GSP for 2005 was $60,079, 3rd in the nation. Alaska's economy relies heavily on petroleum extraction, with more than 80% of the state's revenues derived from this industry.

9. while the cost of living has gone down, it is still one of the highest in the country.

10. Alaska has the lowest individual tax burden in the US[23], and is one of only six states with no state sales tax

11. The state capital, Juneau, is not accessible by road, which has spurred several debates over the decades about moving the capital to a city on the road system.

12. Prominent musicians from Alaska include singer Jewel

worse to look like a guy

i asked myself this question:
what is worse? a guy that can dress up as a girl and pass for a girl or a girl who dresses up like a guy and looks like a guy?

for some reason i think it would be worse for a girl who could look like a guy than a guy who could look like a girl. maybe i think that way just because i'm a guy?

i do not understand how this lady got her own show? much of the time her taste in style and colors is just a million miles from what i think is nice. she's on the tv (telly) and hilde is watching, and i am wondering why the heck debbie is wearing a pink tie dye shirt?! she is an ok program leader, but her taste sometimes just kills the whole show...and i totally understand the guy of indian (?) descent totally not agreeing with anything she is suggesting.

en helvetes pappa - english translation

here's the helvetes pappa poem in english:
a pappa from hell
i am and have been
it stings in my heart
all the terrible things i have done
have made you cry
cry tears so sad
i die when i think about
your scared, desperate look
my son, if you could (were able to)
i would let you hit me
and crush my face
so you don't have to live
in sadness and fear
a pappa from hell
i don't know any better
but that is a lie
i have little control
i'm an ugly troll from hell
i owe you happiness
and dreams never realized
i hate myself
can someone kill me
and save my children
from a pappa from hell
crush my body
and delete my soul
i don't deserve to live
please kill me

here is the norwegian text
and here is the music video by mihau

faster (fast) air (+space) travel

i live in norway. when i want to fly to the west coast of the US i take a plane to london or amsterdam or copenhagen. from there it is usually a 7-9 hour flight (we'll say 8 hours, as an average) to washington.

according to this article:
http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/7622
satellites can orbit the earth in around 90-100 minutes

to orbit only half way around the earth (i assume that is a fair estimation from scandinavia to the US west coast. it is probably less since we fly over the top of the world, almost.) would only take 45-50 minutes.

it takes the space shuttle 8.5 minutes to reach orbital velocity. i assume this means to get into orbit around the earth. see: http://www.hq.nasa.gov/osf/faq.htm#24

according to this article:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A6381038
re-entry takes about 70 minutes from orbit to touch down (landing).

8.5+45+70 == 123.5 minutes
as opposed to 8 hours*60 minutes == 480 minutes (not including the flight time from oslo to london/copenhagen/amsterdam which is about 120 minutes, so 600 minutes total)

any thoughts (besides the obvious, the cost of such travel =)?
